What to do when a hair product irritates the scalp
Stop the new product when the scalp develops persistent burning, swelling, blisters, hives, or worsening itch. Rinse it out, avoid adding other new products, and seek medical care for severe or spreading symptoms.
Read the current label
Check ingredients, intended use, directions, and warnings on the package you have. Formulas and claims can change, so an old listing is not the source of truth.
Keep the routine stable
Change one variable at a time. A small-area test can reduce the area exposed but cannot guarantee that a reaction will never occur.
Safety limits
Trouble breathing, faintness, or rapid swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat can be an emergency. Seek urgent medical help instead of testing the product again.
